5B. Evaluation activities to address this might include an informal brainstorming at the end of a meeting on what went well, what could be improved. Teaching and using communication skills like paraphrase, active listening or behavior description can be useful. Adding electronic communications to the mix heightens project visibility in between meetings, too.

5A. A committee that focuses on the documentation of a project can also glean what group members have learned. In addition to photos, newspaper clippings, meeting minutes, the group might do some interviews with individuals to ask what new skills have been acquired or how attitudes have changed.

5C. This may not come naturally or automatically to many group members so the discussion around impacts may take some time. One useful tool is a spider gram in which an impact is identified (for example, more use of the pool) and then group members are asked to take it one step further (more use means more revenue, more cost, longer hours, etc.). It's not enough to just identify impacts; taking the conversation to a higher level is also important.
