Hometown neighborhoods
to get leadership training

The Heartland Center will bring its leadership training to Lincoln, Nebraska, neighborhoods beginning this spring with a kick-off event in April and continuing with a series of workshops scheduled next fall. A Spring Training Day, scheduled for April 27, 2002, will be one of the first major events at the new F Street Recreation Center. The program will feature a motivational speaker and concurrent sessions on such topics as improving your newsletter, housing rehab, neighborhood clean up and filing a 501(c)(3) application. A class on “Using the Internet” will be held as well, tentatively on the evening of April 26.

Afternoon sessions will preview the fall series of workshop topics for neighborhood associations, such as, maintaining membership, working with the media, and managing meetings.

An autumn workshop series, held over a period of approximately two months, will build leadership skills to strengthen neighborhood associations. Topics tentatively include, in addition to those indicated above:

fund-raising
managing conflict
project management
influencing public policy
leadership styles

This project is co-sponsored by the City of Lincoln Department of Urban Development, Neighborhoods, Inc. and the Heartland Center for Leadership Development, and is funded in part by the Woods Charitable Fund, Inc., of Lincoln, Nebraska.
