New web site for “passionate” practitioners

A new web site has been created as a follow-up to our November 2001 retreat on the Passion and Practice of Community Development. You can visit the site at www.HeartlandFieldGuide.info.

The goal of the Passion and Practice project is to produce a Field Guide to Community Building that will combine storytelling from practitioners with suggestions for activities, plus a variety of techniques and troubleshooting suggestions. The web site has several features to help practitioners and volunteers improve the way they work with communities. In addition to background on the project, you will find these features:

Gallery A special section on storytelling by experienced community builders will use audio and video clips to share successes, adventures and learning experiences.

Let Me Have My Say This section will ask a question of each visitor and collect responses. The first topic covered will be “How to Form a Representative Group” while working on a community project. Please stop by and share a story of your own.

Resources Linking to approximately 30 other organizations, this section opens the door to many resources and worthwhile sites.

The new printed publication of the Field Guide to Community Building should be available in early 2003. The project is funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
